Why it's worth going

These are the players the big halls have already picked out. In ten years the same names cost five times as much to hear.

What to expect

Short recitals in the Festival Theatre rather than the main hall, so the room is intimate and the sound is close. Programmes mix standard repertoire with a contemporary piece written for the series. Around ninety minutes, no interval on some nights.

The Rising Stars scheme works by nomination: each member hall of the European Concert Hall Organisation puts forward a musician it believes in, and they tour the network. What arrives in Budapest is therefore not a local judgement but a European one, and the standard is accordingly high. It is a good first classical concert if you have never been to one — short, close up, and without the ceremony of a full orchestral evening.

Build a day around this

Tell us you are coming for Rising Stars at Müpa and we will build the rest of the day around it — where to be and when, somewhere good to eat nearby, and the parts of Budapest most visitors walk straight past.
